Chair words
Some of these come from our shop floor, some from the routine. All of them appear in the long piece.
- Seat depth
- The distance from the front edge of the cushion to the backrest. Too deep and you slide into a nap; for an alert hour, your knees should clear the edge by a hand's width.
- Armrest
- Where the forearms settle. A steady armrest is what lets you write three lines without a desk.
- Side table
- The small surface at arm's length that holds the notebook, a pen and a cup. Nothing with a battery.
- Fixed slot
- The same time of day, every day, attached to the same seat. The pairing does half the remembering for you.
- Reverse walk
- Recalling the day from the present moment back to waking, one step at a time, on purpose.
- Three lines
- A cap on daily writing that keeps it short enough to never skip.
- Steady look
- Ten minutes spent on one thing outside the window, noticing what has changed since the day before.
- Slow start
- Beginning with ten minutes and one task, then adding a step each week.
For the full routine, go to the chair by the window.
